Concord Youth Theatre programs put children in the spotlight

Concord Youth Theatre offers a variety of workshops and classes for students of all ages.

Theater and performance studies ready students for stage opportunities, but they also build confidence for the academic classroom, for starting new friendships, and they boost creative and critical thinking abilities. Plus, theater classes are fun!

Here are some of the current offerings:

WONDERS OF WINTER TALES (Ages 4-6; Instructor: Joey Talbert; Tuesdays 3:45-4:35 p.m., Jan. 3 to March 21, 2023) Sledding and skiing and snowmen… oh my! Come in from the wintry weather as we act out stories of snowmen, snow trolls, storms and all things frozen! Limit 8 students.

SHOWTIME (Grades 1-2; Instructor: Joey Talbert; Tuesdays 4:45-5:45 p.m., January 3 to March 21, 2023) Children will be guided through the exciting process of play-making in a safe environment that encourages ensemble work. The class will use simple scripts or improvised dialogue to create and rehearse a play to be performed for family members during the last class. ***Regular attendance is required.

KIDS KOMPANY (Grades 3-4; Instructor: Joey Talbert; Tuesdays 6-7 p.m., January 3 to March 21, 2023 Students will experience the excitement of putting on a play, improvising scripts, auditioning for roles, rehearsing, and creating simple costumes to accent their characters. This class will focus on performance skills with special emphasis on class collaboration. The session will conclude with an informal performance. ***Regular attendance is required.

MUSICAL THEATRE SCENE STUDY (Grades 4-6; Instructor: Hannah Flint; Tuesdays 5-6 p.m., Jan. 3 to March 21, 2023t) Students will perform an entire scene from a musical. They will learn to seamlessly integrate the music, perform blocking and choreography and make strong acting choices while singing.

SCENE STUDY (Grades 7-9; Instructor: Hannah Flint; Tuesdays 6:15-7:15pm, Jan. 3 to March 21, 2023) This class is the perfect opportunity for students who want to challenge themselves as actors. Students will work on advanced, dynamic scenes from plays. They will hone their acting skills by working on playing off a partner, breaking down a scene and making strong character choices supported by the text.

BROADWAY DANCE (Grades 7-12; Instructor: Amy Nosowitz; Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 p.m., Jan. 3 to March 21, 2023) Love all those big musical theater dance numbers? Come see how it’s done and try it yourself! Join us to learn choreography to musical theater songs and astound yourself as you perform a full fledged dance number. No dance background necessary. An informal presentation will conclude the class. Limit: 20 students. Tuition: $300

AUDITION TECHNIQUE (Dec. 10, Dec. 11) (Grades 9-12; Instructor: Amy Nosowitz; Saturday Dec. 10, 4-7 p.m. and Sunday Dec.11, 4-7 p.m.) Thinking about auditioning for shows or programs that require that intimidating word “monologue”? In this workshop, students will master important audition skills including cold readings, improv and preparing a monologue. Learn how to show your personality and feel comfortable no matter how big the audition!
