Join Samantha at the Fowler Branch Library to enjoy a selection of teas and discuss Sister, Mother, Warrior by Vanessa Riley. Copies are available at Fowler. We will discuss the book and Haitian recipes. Please feel free to bring in food related to the recipe theme!
“Concord from Above the Trees: Copter Ecology Views with Richard T. T. Forman” Thursday, January 26, 7 PM
Where does Walden’s water come from and flow to? How many intriguing habitats are around Egg Rock? Stream, river, or railroad at Barrett’s Mill Farm? Are spotted sandpipers scarce on the Assabet? Does Spencer Brook migrate? Where is the best place to look for Phragmites? What is the most remote spot in Concord? See a different Concord come alive with this presentation by Richard T. T. Forman, a professor emeritus at Harvard University. The presentation will feature recently captured aerial photographs, plus selections from the holdings of the William Munroe Special Collections. This program will take place in the Goodwin Forum at the Main Library.
Teen Programs
“Teen Dungeons and Dragons” Wednesday, January 18, 3:30 PM.
Teens! Join Dungeons and Dragons at the Teen Lounge in the Main Library. Play casual one-off games or start a campaign with others. Beginners encouraged. Experts expected to help out! No registration required.
“Navigating College Admissions Successfully in 2023” Wednesday, January 25, 7 PM on Zoom
The recent college admissions cycle was the most competitive to date. With most colleges continuing their test-optional policies as well as increasing their virtual outreach to high school students, many schools had record numbers of applicants.
This presentation, led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper from Stand Out For College, LLC, will discuss current college admissions trends, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that are a good fit, and a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this second half of the school year productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. This program will take place on Zoom and is recommended for teens and their parents.
Children’s Programs
“Storytime with Author Josh Funk” Saturday, January 14, 10:30 AM
Meet award-winning children’s author, Josh Funk, in the Children’s Library at the Main Library! Funk will read aloud from the popular “Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast” series’ newest installment The Great Caper Caper, as well My Pet Feet, and more. After the stories, he will lead a fun character creation drawing/writing activity. No registration required.
