Phasing out gas-powered leaf blowers, as Article 37 at Town Meeting recommends, is a good idea. A few reasons: they are extremely noisy; they damage the health of residents and especially the health of the workers who operate them; they are bad for the environment; and they are ultimately more costly than electric leaf blowers. Already forward-thinking landscapers are promoting their electric leaf blowers around Concord. Article 37 builds in time for others to make the conversion.
