Reminder: Patriots Day weekend means road closures in Concord

There are events celebrating the famous “Shot heard ‘round the world” in Concord this weekend, alongside the Tough Ruck and a Boy Scout march. Our prediction for the weekend: traffic.

Here’s your guide to Patriots Day events

There will be numerous temporary road closures and detours Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, including:

Sunday, April 16

The Tough Ruck steps off from Concord at dawn for a full walk/run in military gear to Boston. Temporary rolling road closures are on Monument Street, Liberty Street, and Old Bedford Road between 7-9 a.m. Route 62 in Concord and Bedford will have a reduced speed limit (20MPH) with warning signs and a cone lane, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Monday, April 17

The Patriots Day Parade will create shutdowns, 8 a.m.-noon, on all main roads and side streets entering town center; Main Street/rRoute 62 (closed at Thoreau Street), Sudbury Road (closed at Thoreau Street), Walden Street (closed at Heywood), Lexington Roadd (closed at Heywood), Old Bedford Road/Route 62 (closed at Bedford Street), Monument Street (closed at Liberty Street), and Lowell Road (closed at Barretts Mill Road). Parking will be at Alcott School, Concord District Court, CCHS, or on-street parking outside the parade route. If you park in the Keyes Road lot, Walden Street municipal lot, or Old North Bridge lot you will not be able to leave till after the parade.

Acton Minutemen and National Boy Scout Group March, Strawberry Hill Road will be closed, one lane on Barretts Mill Road, Barnes Hill Road and Estabrook Road closed between 7 – 8 a.m.. Approximately 500 Boy Scouts will be marching in from Acton.

Wednesday, April 19

No road closure, but noise from dawn salute cannon fire at 6 a.m.

Sudbury Militia March, 8 a.m.-noon There will be a rolling one lane closure from the Sudbury town line on Old Marlboro Road, Cottage Street, Commonwealth Avenue, Route 2 rotary, Barretts Mill Road, Barnes Hill Road, and Estabrook Road.
