Frederick D. MacNeill, Jr., 94

May 8, 2024

Frederick D. MacNeill, Jr., 94, formerly of Concord, passed away on May 5, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Anita (Venti) MacNeill.

Fred was born in Jamaica Plain on September 28, 1929 as the only child of the late Frederick and Agnes MacNeill. He grew up in West Roxbury, attended Boston Public Schools, and graduated from Boston English High School. He then studied at Scott Carbee Art School.

Fred was drafted into the Army in 1951, and served in the Korean War as a radio operator with the 5th Armored Division. Promoted to Corporal, he was honorably discharged in 1953.

For more than 20 years, Fred worked professionally as a typewriter technician for Remington Rand in the Boston area. During these years, Fred continued his art education at Vesper George School of Art in Boston, and honed his skills as a professional landscape and seascape artist.

In the early 1960’s, Fred met the love of his life, Anita, from Concord. They were married in 1965, started a family with their two sons, and settled in Concord.

A prolific and award-winning self-employed artist, Fred’s studio at his Concord home was a source of pride and the place he put his talent to use on beautiful oil and watercolor paintings. His work is represented in many private and corporate collections. He was a member of numerous art societies and galleries.

Fred will also be remembered for this strong faith in God, and his numerous personal and professional friendships, that endure to this day.

He leaves behind two children, John MacNeill and wife Nina and Paul MacNeill and wife Jasmin, and five grandchildren, Caitlin MacNeill, Meghan MacNeill, Joshua MacNeill, Owen MacNeill and Callum MacNeill.

Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Sunday, May 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral service will be held Monday, May 13, at 11 a.m. in New Life Community Church, 221 Baker Avenue. Burial with U.S. Army military honors will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
