What does it take to build community? We will seek inspiration in books and talk to others interested in creating and strengthening connections in this book club started by our friends at Art for All. For October, we will read Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World by Vivek Murthy. Books available for pickup at Fowler Branch Library. Register online.

The Right to Read Screening

Sunday, October 15 at 3 p.m.

In honor of Dyslexia Awareness Month, we are screening the documentary The Right to Read, which follows several individuals who fight to provide children with the foundation for life-long success: the ability to read. When a child can’t read, their chances of incarceration, homelessness, and unemployment increase. That’s why activist Kareem Weaver believes literacy is one of the greatest civil rights issues and is fighting for better reading instruction. “What good is winning the right to vote if we can’t even read the ballot?” Sponsored by the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library. Virtual. Register online.
