Boys’ Soccer: With a 2-0 week, the boys’ team stayed undefeated at 9-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the Dual County League. The team currently sits in first in the MIAA Division One Boys Soccer Power Rankings. Senior Brady Poor delivered the game-winner on October 12 a 1-0 win over Westford Academy. The goal came in the 78th minute of the 80-minute game and was Poor’s team-leading tenth of the season.
“Sean Fernandez-Davila made a great defensive play to get the ball,” said Poor. “Eli Siefer made a nice touch on the ball and I ran in and kicked it as hard as I could, and it went in.”
The Patriots won on the road October 10 with a 3-0 victory at Lincoln-Sudbury. Poor, junior Miles Mattaliano and senior Benny Bury each scored for CCHS.
Girls’ Soccer: The girls improved to 8-0-2 with a tie and a win during the week before two losses on the weekend in the Marc Krauss Cup dropped them to 8-2-2. The Patriots were ranked sixth in the MIAA Division One Girls Soccer Power Rankings.
On October 10, they traveled to Lincoln-Sudbury and tied 1-1. L-S scored first within the opening minute of the game. C-C scored a minute and a half later when senior Caroline Coletti made her 11th goal of the season. Despite outshooting the Warriors 18-4, the Patriots could not find the back of the net again. The week’s lone win came on October 11, when they defeated Westford Academy 2-1 on the road. Senior Cara Ubaldino scored the go-ahead goal off a corner kick by Coletti.
Girls’ Volleyball: In a 1-1 week, the girls lost to Wayland 3-1 on October 13 on Senior Night for the team. Honored were Maddie Smack, Lily Johnson, Ella Gardner, Captain Isabella Dirocco and Captain Isabel Jaffee. Those five will take with them 16 years of experience at C-C. “The seniors have meant so much to the program,” said head coach James Crandall. “Through their hard work, dedication and leadership they have contributed to the program.” The Patriots found themselves down 2-0 after the first two games but came back to win game three 25-19 before dropping the fourth game 25-14.
Gardner (seven kills, three aces) and Jaffee (10 kills) each had 10 points. Junior opposite hitter Gaby Kakas added six kills.
The team traveled to Westford Academy on October 11 and won 3-1, coming back after losing game one. Senior captain Isabel Jaffe had a team-high 15 points on 10 kills, four aces and a block. Senior outside hitter Lilly Johnson added 12 points (six kills, five aces, one block). Sophomore setter April Tang contributed 11 points on four kills and seven aces and senior middle hitter Ella Gardner added nine points (six kills, three aces). Defensive senior captain Bella Dirocco and Jaffe each had eight digs.
Field Hockey: In a 1-2 week, the lone win came on October 11 when the Patriots, ranked ninth in the MIAA Power Rankings, defeated Wayland 9-0. Junior Fei Yang-Sady paced the offense with three goals and an assist. Freshman Avery Swenson added two goals and junior Lauren Carey had two assists. Senior Julia Lambert had a goal and an assist. Sophomores Brynn Chaffe and Kaia Triola each scored and senior Hadley Swenson also added a goal. The team lost at home on October 9 to fourth-ranked Franklin, 4-2. The Patriots goals were scored by juniors Kate Francini and Lauren Carey. The team traveled to fourth in MIAA Power Rankings Acton-Boxborough on October 13 and lost the rematch 4-0. The teams had tied 4-4 on September 12.
Cross Country: The girls’ cross-country team traveled to Lincoln-Sudbury on October 11 for the last regular meet of the season. They narrowly beat L-S 28-29 and defeated Boston Latin 11-43. The team was led by ninth graders Maria Chopas, Alex Skelly and Abby Adams who finished second, third and fourth and Pelin Turner, who finished seventh. Junior Izzy Crowell and senior Charlotte Skelly came in at 14 and 15.
