CCHS students audition at Senior District Music Festival

December 11, 2023

Concord-Carlisle High School students hit the right notes at the annual Massachusetts Music Educators Association Eastern District Senior Festival Auditions last month, with 31 students selected for the ensemble, 16 of whom were invited to audition for the All-State Festival.

A total of 62 CCHS students were picked to audition along with students from across 30 eastern Massachusetts cities and towns. Of the 993 students who auditioned from across the district, 444 were selected to participate in an ensemble with an esteemed guest conductor. The top 50% of the accepted students received a recommendation to audition for the All State Concert Festival.

The opportunity to audition for the MMEA Senior District Music Festival gives students the opportunity to work in depth with a difficult piece of music over a long period of time. It also offers the chance to experience a true live audition, complete with a solo, sight-reading and scales recitation.

Competition for the ensembles is intense. Students have been practicing, in some cases, since the music was released in June.

The MMEA Senior District concert takes place on Saturday, January 6 at Milton High School.

CCPOPS is the parent-run booster organization which supports the music department and all the performing arts at Concord-Carlisle High School. They welcome and coordinate volunteers, donations and logistical support. To get involved in CCPOPS or to contribute, email CCPOPS@gmail.com.

The annual CCHS Prism concert takes place December 15 and 16, featuring student-run instrumental ensembles as well as choral ensembles. Tickets are now on sale.
