Boys’ Ice Hockey opened the season with an 8-5 win at Gloucester on December 9. Senior forward Jay Carter led the offense with two goals and four assists. Will Manchuso, a sophomore forward, had five assists. Also contributing were sophomore forward Theo Price with two goals, ninth grade forward Joe Grasso had goal and assist. Junior forwards Jack Pesce and Trevor Bailey each scored and sophomore forward Cam Doull also lit the lamp. In between the pipes was Junior Jason Swaim who made 37 saves.
Girls Ice Hockey lost their season opener 4-3 at Acton-Boxborough on December 9. Maddy Humber, an eighth-grader, lit the lamp three times for her first varsity goals and hat trick. Humber was assisted by Nicki Atkins, Sarah Altar and Elizabeth Cooke.
Wrestling opened its 2023-24 season on December 9 with a quad meet and came away with wins over Malden Catholic 60-6, and Woburn 46-30. The team lost to Greater Lowell Tech 52-21. Eddie Miles, Kian Amouzgar, Grady Snarr and Miles Mattaliano were each undefeated on the day. Julia Vuckovic was 2-0 for the junior varsity for her first victories.
In girls soccer, senior Sofia Girolimetti, senior Nathalie Gahan and ninth-grader Ainsley Siefer were all named Dual County League All-Stars Thorpe Division. Earning DCL All-League honors (the top 14 players in the DCL overall) were ninth-grader Emmy O’Donnell, senior Trinity Johnson, senior Kelly Fletcher and senior Caroline Coletti. Coletti was also named Dual County Player of the Year. Trinity Johnson earned Eastern Mass All-Star second team honors. Earning Eastern Mass All-Star first team honors were Coletti, O’Donnell and Fletcher. Coletti added All-State and All-Region (New England) to her awards. She will be attending Amherst College next fall and playing for the Mammoths.
In girls cross country, ninth grader Maria Chopas earned Dual County League All-Star honors.
Alumni update
Cole Pascucci, former two-time captain of the Concord-Carlisle High School football team and a 2020 graduate, just finished playing his junior year for the Georgetown Hoyas. He plays linebacker and on special teams. A 2023 season highlight: the November 18 game at Holy Cross, which his former Head Coach Mike Robichaud attended along with current CCHS Head Football Coach Josh Reed.
Former DCL lineman of the year, James Maloney, is a sophomore offensive lineman on the United States Military Academy football team. He joined his Cadet teammates at the December 9 124th Army-Navy game played at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Army defeated Navy 17-11 in the first such game played in New England.
Tim Hays is a redshirt freshman linebacker for the Boston College Eagles. He played in the 38-23 win at Georgia Tech. Holden Miller and Blake Newcomb, two stars from last year’s CCHS football team, are playing at the Division 3 college level. Miller is a quarterback on the Denison (Ohio) team and played in the 38-15 win at Kenyon. Newcomb, a wide receiver at Wesleyan (Connecticut), played in the 34-7 win over Amherst.
