Letter: Naming school for Ellen Garrison would send kids the right message

February 9, 2024

I am delighted to learn that the new middle school could be named after Ellen Garrison, an African-American former resident of Concord. She took the knowledge she acquired in our schools and used it to teach folks who had been enslaved to read and write. What action better embodies the essence of everything we hope to teach our kids? Share the power of your knowledge to empower others! Middle school students would greatly benefit from her example.
