Sleepy Hollow Cemetery receives 20th anniversary gifts

July 27, 2023

In concluding its year-long 20th anniversary celebration, The Friends of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Inc. has made two permanent gifts to the cemetery which are now prominently installed.

Founded in 2002 as a charitable entity, the organization, under the direction of its 11-member board of directors, has a mission of furthering the beautification, enhancement and advancement of the historic burial grounds in various ways.

One gift is a solid set of metal bollards in front of the Melvin Memorial, “Mourning Victory.” Most recently, the lettering “Sleepy Hollow” has been positioned on the entrance gates to The Knoll section of the cemetery, historically replicating in hand-fashioned design the original lettering that once graced the main Pritchard Gate.

“All that we accomplish — and these gifts are a prime example — is only possible because of the unqualified, responsive support of our many local and long-distance donors,” Board President Kevin Thomas Plodzik said in a statement.

“Further enabling our work are the committed spirit of our directors and the valued collaboration with the town’s Cemetery Committee, the superintendent of highway and grounds and the cemetery supervisor. To all, we are ever grateful.”
