Concordian David MacAdam’s “Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol” on Groton stage

December 7, 2023

New Life Fine Arts presents the Charles Dickens classic, “Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol,” in an original musical adaptation written by Concord’s David MacAdam in eight performances from December 8 to 17.

“A seasonal dose of this Dickens classic is good for the soul,” said MacAdam, who will also direct the presentation at Groton Dunstable Performing Arts Center. Performances will be held December 8-17 with four evening productions and four matinees.

Glenn Gray, a lifelong Sudbury resident, plays the Spirit of Christmas Past and Present. His wife, Jo-Anne, and two of their children, Jasmine (Treadwell) and Charlotte (Harris), along with his grandsons, Elliott and Gideon Harris, will be joining him on stage.

The cast of more than 60 accompanied by an orchestra evokes the London of tightfisted curmudgeon Scrooge and his transformation into a man who learned to keep Christmas well “every day of the year.”

MacAdam’s musicals are familiar to the community: Four of his works have been performed on the Groton stage, including “Esther,” which premiered there in 2019, and most recently this past September, “Ruth.”

The Performing Arts Center is at 344 Main Street in Groton. Tickets are available via www.newlifefinearts.org or by calling 978-795-9075 at $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and students, and $20 for groups of 10 or more.
