The Concord Players announce auditions for The Music Man

December 28, 2023

The Concord Players are holding auditions in early January for The Music Man

This beloved musical classic tells the tale of the fast-talking Harold Hill, who arrives in River City with plans to charm the town and make a quick buck. What happens next takes the entire town — including Harold and Marian, the town’s uptight librarian — by surprise.

The Music Man features big, memorable production numbers with parts for people of all ages and ethnicities. The score includes timeless classics like “Till There was You,” “Marian the Librarian,” “Wells Fargo Wagon” and “Seventy-Six Trombones.”

  • Adult auditions will be at 51 Walden Street on Thursday, January 4 and Friday, January 5 from 7-10 p.m. and Saturday, January 6, from 2-5 p.m.
  • Children’s auditions (for kids ages 9-15) will be held Friday, January 5, from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday, January 6, from 1-2 p.m.
  • Callbacks will be held on Sunday, January 7 from 1-5 p.m.

Actors will be seen in groups of six by appointment only.

Auditioners should prepare 16-32 bars in the show’s style that showcases both their vocal and acting abilities. Bring sheet music in the correct key, taped together or in a binder — no loose sheet music or books. Actors will also read a short side that will be provided at auditions.

Rehearsals for The Music Man will be held Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m., Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m., and some Friday evenings, beginning on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

There will be eight performances over three weekends: Fridays, April 26, May 3 and 10 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 27, May 4 and 11 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 28 and May 5 at 2 p.m.
