Concord-Carlisle girls basketball team built an 11-point lead at 44-33 with 5:53 left to play. Only to have Shrewsbury close out the game with a 12-0 run to pull out a 45-44-win, Thursday night at CCHS Hayes gymnasium.

Shrewsbury’s Amanda Kalinowski had a big fourth quarter. She scored eight of her game-high 17 points, including the game winner with 1:42 left in the game. She was also big on the boards, giving her teammates second chances and corralling defensive rebounds to take opportunities away from the Patriots. In the final minute and a half of the game neither could score and both teams called two timeouts. CC was inbounding the ball with 2.7 seconds left but could not get off a last shot as the inbound pass was just overthrown.

Concord-Carlisle had led at every stop, 11-6 after one, 22-15 at the half and 38-26 after three, but could not hold the lead in fourth quarter. The Patriots had built their lead on 11 points each from senior captains Karleigh Mutch and Addison Shen. Shen added 15 rebounds and two blocks.

“That one hurt,” stated head coach Amy Davagian. “It was a very winnable game for us.

“We have to finish,” added Davagian. “We can’t stop scoring in the fourth quarter.”

The Patriots were 1-for-11 from the field in the fourth quarter after shooting 47% (16×34) over the first three quarters. The Colonials turned their shooting around hit 60% of their field goals15) in the fourth quarter compared to 21% (11×52) over the first three quarters.

Ninth-grader May Isenberg came off the bench and had seven points and five rebounds for the Patriots. Senior captain Brooke Boyle was limited to five points, but pulled down nine rebounds.

CC travels to Waltham for its next game and will look to return to the win column.
