Sahag “Sy” Bukruian is having his first art show — at age 90.

The Concord senior will show his bright and whimsical oil paintings at the Concord Council on Aging at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center until March 28.

Bukruian is an artist, singer/songwriter, musician and entrepreneur whose career spans nearly 70 years.

He was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and came of age in the Paris of the 1950s. The influence of his Parisian training is reflected in much of his work — whimsical landscapes, impressionistic portraiture and brilliant use of color are the hallmarks of his style.

Much of his work draws on memories of his travels throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Besides his love of painting, Bukruian has also followed his passion for music. In the early 1950s, he had a successful musical career, and those who strolled the Seine back then might have seen him playing his accordion and serenading passersby. His songs include “Under the Apple Tree” and “Your Sad Eyes,” which reached number one in the Middle East.

In the United States, Sahag prospered as a real estate investor.

Bukruian also has a studio at Potager in Concord, where you can often find him painting and encouraging his great-granddaughters, Eloise and Estelle.
