Who says all the basketball action in Concord and Carlisle is on the high school court?
Not the young — very young — competitors and Metrowest League champs of Concord-Carlisle Youth Basketball.
“It was an incredible season for CCYB and was by far our best showing in the history of the program that started over 10 years ago,” said CCYB Boys Director and Coach Chris Ryan.
“In years past, we would only see a handful of teams win one or two games at the most, with an occasional team making it to the semifinals,” Ryan said.
“This year, we had three girls teams and four boys teams make the championship round.”
Five teams won in the championships, including the fourth- and sixth-grade girls Maroon teams, the fifth- and sixth-grade boys Maroon teams, and the seventh-grade boys White team, Ryan said.
The seventh-grade girls Maroon team made it to the semifinals and the eighth-grade boys Maroon team made it to the Championship game.
The CCYB program features five girls’ teams with 55 players and 11 boys’ teams with 118 players.
President Marc Caruso says CCYB, with a focus on skills, self-esteem, and camaraderie, is about much more than championship swag — or swagger.
“Keeping a positive attitude, trying your best, and supporting your teammates are important skills in life and not just basketball,” he said.
