Organizers of Concord’s all-out 2025 commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War are preparing for potentially tens of thousands of visitors flooding into town.
To handle such a large-scale event is going to take a lot of help… including in the form of donor cash.
Now, per Select Board Chair Henry Dane, the nonprofit Concord 250 Corporation has officially received 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service.
“That means at this point we have a nonprofit corporation to help fund the 250 celebration with private and institutional tax-deductible contributions,” said Dane, who was formerly chair of the Concord250 executive committee, which is now led by Chair Gary Clayton and Vice-Chair Robert Munro.
“Of course, consult your tax advisor,” he added.
Dane gleefully reported to his Select Board colleagues that the fund drive even managed to snag the magic mailbox number.
“Checks can be made payable to Concord250 Corporation and should be forwarded to the corporate treasurer, Richard J. Loughlin, at P.O. Box 250, Concord MA 01742 for deposit in the account of the Corporation at the Middlesex Savings Bank,” he recently wrote to local government officials and commemoration organizers.
Unfortunately, Dane kidded, “we couldn’t change the ZIP code for the occasion.”
The Executive Committee is asking April’s Town Meeting for a significant infusion of funds to help pull off the 250th celebration, which is expected to be a high-traffic, high-security event.
